Location

In the Heart of Tuscaloosa

The Richard C. Shelby Monument Park is proposed to stand adjacent to the nation's newest U.S. federal building and court house. This is in the heart of Tuscaloosa, Alabama less than one mile from The University of Alabama and just east of the former historic Alabama state capitol.

The new U.S. Federal Building and Court House in Tuscaloosa is a beautiful federal building designed with historical reference. Its traditional design represents a historic focal point for the state of Alabama and also represents the architecture of other historical, national, and state government buildings. It is a strong landmark of quality and fine architecture. The Richard C. Shelby Monument Park will be across from this magnificent structure and near other important historical landmarks.

The proposed monument will stand within the heart of the city of Tuscaloosa. It is a thriving area that is centrally located near restaurants, government buildings, and near other parks. It will be a great place to picnic, stroll, or admire.

Tuscaloosa was Alabama's historic second state capital. The history of Alabama includes important visitors that visited near the proposed monument. During Alabama's early history, Francis Scott Key, composer of The U.S. National Anthem "The Star Spangled Banner" was directed by President Andrew Jackson to speak at the nearby state capitol which stood directly west of The Richard C. Shelby Monument. Also nearby, the former governor's mansion is also beautiful and only just a few blocks east from the proposed monument. The location of this monument park could not be better situated for convenient access or central presence for all to enjoy. The monument is proposed across from the new federal court house or on an island centered directly on University Blvd and 21st Avenue in downtown Tuscaloosa
