The Park

Beautiful and Peaceful

The proposed Richard C. Shelby Monument is designed as a citizen monument. It will have a tall monument, an Alabama flag spire, one U.S. federal fountain and one Alabama state fountain. The Park is designed to be aesthetic and pleasing. Lamps and ornamental walkways will be present within the park and could be part of the adjacent Government Plaza or the monument might be best located on an island on the crossroads of University Blvd. and 21st Avenue

The focal point will be towards the monument. At the crest or high point adjacent to the Federal Courthouse the Richard C. Shelby monument will tower. To the east and west or north and south could be a fountain on either side.

The monuments beauty will be visible to those working or visiting the new federal building and courthouse and to those traveling on University Blvd. towards downtown Tuscaloosa or towards the University of Alabama.

The monument will be developed in three stages with the first stage involving the construction of the monument and an elective aspect would be for a second and third stage occurring for fountain establishment.
